RECYCLE AND REUSE

Dear Parents,

Next week we will be studying about recycling and reusing materials in our enviroment.

Learning about recycling is part of our science TEKS. Your child should be able to make wise choices in the area of recycling materials.

Here are some really cool sites that will help your child learn how to properly recycle and reduce waste. Just click on the underlined words.

The
Rubbish Challenge helps your child learn what items can be recycled, which ones can be reused, and which ones to reduce. Just click on start and then drag and drop the right item onto the right square. If you get the answer right, the game moves you to the next square. But be quick because you're being timed. Have fun!

At the Ecokids site your child can play I Don't Want to Clean My Room. First there is a short comic strip to read with your child, and then it is time to help
Anita clean her room. Just click and drop each one of the items in her room into the right recycling bin. If you get it right a message shows up telling you why that item goes in that bin. Good Luck!

At the Activity Village you and your child can learn how to create a
home recyling center. This site gives step by step instructions on how to create the center in your very own home.

ENERGY IS ALL AROUND US

Dear Parents,

Over the next few weeks our students will learn about energy and take a closer look at various forms of energy including light, heat, electrical, and solar energy.

Learning about forms of energy is included in our science TEKS. Your child should be able to differentiate among forms of energy including light, heat, electrical, and solar energy.

Below are some Internet sites that you and your child can examine together. Each site will help your child learn more about energy and how we can save it and be safe around it.

The Atoms Family site teaches children how to be safe around
electrical energy. Just click on a character to see what they are doing wrong.

At this site your child can learn how solar power is turned into electrical power. Just drag and drop the pictures in the right places and build your very own solar power plant.

The Tampa electric website shows your child how electricity is created. Just start the boiler and watch how electricity is generated.

FROGS

Dear Parents,

This week we are studying the life cycle of frogs in our science class.
Frogs have four stages in their life:
1. Eggs
2. Tadpole
3. Metamorph
4. Frog

Studying the life cycle of animals is part of our science TEKS. Your child should be able to describe the life cycle of frogs.

Here are some interesting sites for you and your child to investigate together. All of the sites will help your child learn about the life cycle of frogs.
______________________________
At this site your child can drag the pictures into the correct order for the life cycle of a frog. But first they must practice on the butterfly. How good is your memory?
______________________________
This site offers more practice on putting the stages in the correct order. All you do is click on the picture that goes in box #1 and if you get the answer right you can move on to box #2.
______________________________
This site is so neat. You and your child can follow the development from egg to tadpole to frog in these real life images.

4. accumulation.

Learning about the water cycle is part of our science TEKS. Your child should be able to describe and identify the significance of the the water cycle.

The follwing sites are for you and your child to explore together. Each site will help your child learn about the water cycle. Just click on the underlined word to get to the site.
